The Yuba
County Economic Development Department has been successful
in locating a Buzz Oates Development project at the Yuba County
Airport. The company will develop several spec buildings
in Airport Industrial Park Site No. 5 and hold a right to
purchase an adjoining 5-acre lot. Project development will
get underway immediately.
The
Yuba County
Airport
has been successful in relocating Baldwin Contracting from
within the City of Marysville to Airport Industrial Park Site
No. 5 along Skyway Drive, Lot 9, a 5.43-acre site.
Additionally, Acme Propane has purchased the last manufacturing
site in Airport Industrial Park No. 1, Lot 17, approximately 3.5
acres. Both companies will be under construction in the
next several weeks.
CORPORATE HANGAR AREA REOPENS AND SELLS OUT
The corporate hangar area is the area where Krueger Aviation and
A&P Helicopters currently reside. A total of 14 lots
parallel Crosswind Taxiway 05/23 which were recently put out to
bid. All lots sold with the exception of Lot 11, being
held for a future taxiway, and Lot 14, the larger lot of all
(about twice as big). Lot 14 will be sold as soon as the
remainder lots are finalized. Crosswind Properties joins
the Yuba County Airport as its newest location and partner as
they have purchased 5 of the corporate lots. Crosswind
Properties will be developing these lots for further marketing
to corporate individuals.

MILLION RACEWAY
In June 1998, Frank Arcierio became the owner of 1,000 acres of
property to develop a state-of-the-art, multi-use
facility
capable of accommodating virtually every type of professional
auto racing. The project became a reality after an 86.3
percent favorable vote by the Olivehurst area population that
allowed for the rezoning of the property to what is now
identified as the new "Sports and Entertainment Zone." The
site will feature a 1.3-mile banked oval, a 4,540-foot drag
strip, and several road courses in configurations ranging from
1.2 to 2.1 miles. Spectator areas will include grandstand
seating for 40,000 on the oval, 10,000 on the drag stri0p, plus
open spectator viewing areas and luxury suites.
$20 MILLION SACRAMENTO VALLEY AMPHITHEATRE
In May 1999, Bill Graham Presents/SFX Entertainment became the
owner of 90 acres of the 1,000-acre site being developed for the
Motorplex for the construction of a $25 million outdoor concert
venue
that would seat up to 20,000 people. The Sacramento Valley
Amphitheatre opened its doors on June 10, 2000, for its first
concert season and subsequently held 26 major events with
270,000 in attendance. It is estimated that the first five
years will result in a $41 million regional impact on Northern
California due to support services, service stations, hotels,
restaurants, accommodations, and travel-related industries.
BASEBALL RETURNS TO MARYSVILLE
The
City of Marysville built a 3,000-seat stadium at Bryant Field
for the inaugural season of professional baseball. A total
of 90 games with 48 home games from May to September were
played. The city is actively pursuing a new team to call
Bryant Field their home.
$7 MILLION US POSTAL SERVICE DISTRIBUTION FACILITY
A new 70,000 square foot postal distribution facility was built
at the Y uba
County Airport Industrial Parks. The facility opened in
May 1998. Located on 13 acres, the facility employs
approximately 160 people. The plant's clients are the 64
post office branches in the 959 ZIP code area. Rated as
one of the best facilities on the Pacific Coast, the facility
processes nearly 40,300 pieces of canceled mail every hour, more
than twice as fast as the old facility. The plant runs
three shifts to cover a 24-hour operation.
NEW RESTAURANT FACILITIES OPEN
Three
new restaurants opened in Yuba City in the EZ. Coco's
Restaurant, a 5,975 square foot facility was constructed in the
Wal-Mart/Sam's Club shopping center, resulting in 60 full and
part-time job opportunities. Next door, Hometown Buffet
built a 7,294 square foot facility, adding another 60 full and
part-time jobs. And, in 2000, an 132-seat International
House of Pancakes opened in the Winco Shopping Center. A
total of 175,707 square feet make up the Winco area which a
number of additional pads available for more business. The
Winco store (formerly Waremart Foods) is an 85,000 square foot
super store that hired about 170 of its 200 employees from the
Yuba-Sutter Region.
MEDICAL FACILITIES CONTINUE TO GROW
A
number of new medical facilities continue to expand and locate.
A new cancer unit associated with UC Davis was built in
Marysville. Rideout Memorial Hospital also expanded by
adding another wing that houses a new heart center.
PFI/BOLIN
CONTRACTING
Located
at the Yuba County Airport Industrial Parks, PFI relocated
operations from Paradise and Roseville to bring over 100 new
manufacturing jobs to the Region. PFI and its two
affiliates, Bolin Custom Builders and Ponderosa Door & Trim
located in a 43,000 square foot building. The company
provides production framing for apartments, residential
facilities, and commercial projects and work at job sites in a
number of Sacramento Valley cities, including Marysville and
Lincoln, the San Francisco Bay Area and Nevada.

Since the State Trade and Commerce Agency implemented its Zone
Excellence Awards program in 1998, Yuba-Sutter has received 6
awards:
